Rebuild Beirut.

One House at a Time.

One Family at a Time.

On the evening of Aug. 4, there was a massive explosion in the Lebanese capital of Beirut. The disaster happened near Beirut’s port in a highly populated area of the city. According to the Red Cross, hundreds of people have been killed, more than 6,000 have been injured, and 300,000+ lost their homes.

Borderless NGO, a volunteer led independent non-sectarian Lebanese NGO, decided to offer IMMEDIATE AID in Beirut and has launched DIRECT RELIEF initiatives to help the people who have been affected by the disastrous damage from the explosion. Learn more about us.

Our emergency relief response plan consists of three main initiatives delivered directly to the most impacted areas:

1. Families Home Rebuilding:
We assess the homes of families that were severely damaged from the explosion and we will be offering a helping hand in fixing up houses to make them livable once more. We will provide a renovation plan that includes all the elements from structural analysis by architects and engineers to replacing doors and windows as well as refurbishing with the necessary furniture. Activities primarily include:

  • Clearing out debris

  • Rebuild roofs and walls

  • Replacing doors and windows

  • Painting and finishing touches

  • Fixing furniture (beds, cupboards, etc.)  and providing other essentials (kitchen utensils, electrical appliances, etc.)

2. Children Safeguarding and Psychosocial Support:

Provide crucial psychosocial support for children during this emergency to help them overcome such a difficult experience. These efforts include culturally and age appropriate, safe and stimulating activities such as sports and games to develop life skills and coping mechanisms, and support resiliency. Licensed psychologists and social workers will be deployed to treat, and track identified issues as well as offer art, music and activities therapy. The social workers will also be available in the field to help both, children and their parents, with case assessment and referrals as needed. With the support of volunteers, we also want to ensure that every kid has access to a variety of activities, snacks, and other necessities while their communities are getting rebuilt. Activities primarily include:

  • Psychological First Aid (PFA) for Children

  • Structured activities for children

  • Distribution of stationary and other children related items as needed (clothes, toys, etc.)

  • Identification and referral for more specialized mental health, and other services including community-based interventions

  • Peer-to-peer support focused on adolescents and youth

As a first phase, the Borderless volunteer team was deployed to the Karantina neighborhood, one of the most affected areas and home to a big unprivileged community. Right now, many people have been displaced and forced to live with their neighbors and/or relatives. In some houses, there are more than 17 people living in a 2 rooms apartment. So we need all the support we can get as soon as we can get it. We will be updating our progress through our social media platform. Please make sure to follow us to see first hand the impact YOU will be supporting.

To address the issues that we must take care of immediately, we are seeking the following:

1- Financial Support / funds / donations

2- Children supplies (baby diapers, food, stationary, etc.)

3- Construction Material (Main needs are: Iron bars, Aluminium frames, Windows / glass, Wooden doors, Paint)

4- Technical Support (e.g. Contractors, Handy-workers, Case managers, Volunteers etc.)

5- Home supplies (e.g. Electrical appliances, Beds, Furniture, etc.)

If you are a funding entity or another NGO, we are ready to partner with you to rebuild together. We stand ready to undergo any due diligence / vetting process. Contact us today.
