Rebuild Beirut.

One Family at a Time.

On the evening of Aug. 4 2020, there was a massive explosion in the Lebanese capital of Beirut. The disaster happened near Beirut’s port in a highly populated area of the city. According to the Red Cross, hundreds of people have been killed, more than 6,000 have been injured, and 300,000+ lost their homes.

Borderless NGO, a volunteer led independent non-sectarian Lebanese NGO, decided to offer IMMEDIATE AID in Beirut and has launched DIRECT RELIEF initiatives to help the people who have been affected by the disastrous damage from the explosion. Learn more about us.

Our emergency relief response plan consists of three main initiatives delivered directly to the most impacted areas:

1. Families Home Rebuilding (PHASE COMPLETED):
We assessed the homes of families that were severely damaged from the explosion and we offered a helping hand in fixing up houses to make them livable once more. We provided a renovation plan that included all the elements from structural analysis by architects and engineers to replacing doors and windows as well as refurbishing with the necessary furniture. Activities primarily included:

  • Clearing out debris

  • Rebuild roofs and walls

  • Replacing doors and windows

  • Painting and finishing touches

  • Fixing furniture (beds, cupboards, etc.)  and providing other essentials (kitchen utensils, electrical appliances, etc.)

2. Children Safeguarding and Psychosocial Support (ONGOING PRIMARY FOCUS):

Provide crucial psychosocial support for children during this emergency to help them overcome such a difficult experience. These efforts include culturally and age appropriate, safe and stimulating activities such as sports and games to develop life skills and coping mechanisms, and support resiliency. Licensed psychologists and social workers will be deployed to treat, and track identified issues as well as offer art, music and activities therapy. The social workers will also be available in the field to help both, children and their parents, with case assessment and referrals as needed. With the support of volunteers, we also want to ensure that every kid has access to a variety of activities, snacks, and other necessities while their communities are getting rebuilt. Activities primarily include:

  • Psychological First Aid (PFA) for Children

  • Structured activities for children

  • Distribution of stationary and other children related items as needed (clothes, toys, etc.)

  • Identification and referral for more specialized mental health, and other services including community-based interventions

  • Peer-to-peer support focused on adolescents and youth

3. Women and Caregivers Empowerment and Upskilling (ONGOING PRIMARY FOCUS):

Conduct women and caregivers circles as well as coaching to develop their technical and leadership skills so they can support their community with their knowledge and talents. This is done through engagement in awareness raising sessions on, among others:

  • Available services in their community

  • Life skills

  • Parenting and non-violent resolution of conflicts

  • Safe referral of survivors of violence to specialized service providers

  • Technical upskilling

The Borderless team is still to this date current deployed to the Karantina neighborhood. We believe true impact can only be attained through a long-term commitment to sustainable development. As such after just 2 months from the blast, Borderless established a permanent community center in Karantina, one of the most affected areas and home to a big unprivileged community. So we need all the support we can get as soon as we can get it. We will be updating our progress through our social media platform. Please make sure to follow us to see first hand the impact YOU will be supporting.

To address the issues that we must take care of immediately, we are seeking the following:

1- Financial Support / funds / donations

2- Children supplies (e.g. baby diapers, toys, stationary, etc.)

3- Food (e.g. baby formulas, rice, lentils, vegetable oil, meat, etc.)

If you are a funding entity or another NGO, we are ready to partner with you to make Beirut better than it was. We stand ready to undergo any due diligence / vetting process. Contact us today.
